5 Outdoor Activities We're Doing This Spring

It's Spring again and we're looking forward to more days outdoors. Yes, we live in Hawaii and the weather is beautiful year round, but the possibilities of outdoor adventures open up when the rainy months are over. Now that Mr. Sun is shining through the clouds, here are 5 outdoor activities we've got planned this season.

1.) Planting for Pollinators

We're learning about the plant cycle right now and we'll be moving on to pollination next. Most of our local pollinators are in danger of becoming extinct. Pollination is essential for our ecosystem. We'll be doing our part by adding flowers for pollinators in our garden.

2.) Aloha 'Āina

I have a dream that I recently shared with my family and they have agreed to help me get started. I've been inspired by other local mama friends that have started their journey of aloha 'āina. Aloha, meaning love and 'āina, meaning land which feeds or simply put, love of the land. We started working on clearing an area in our yard to start a garden to grow foods that will nourish my 'ohana, or family. This process will take us several months, so stay tuned for updates.

3.) Toddlerschool Pop-Up

We have a Toddlerschool Pop-Up scheduled for April 26, 2024. Meet us in Kahana Valley at 9am for a lesson on the plant cycle. We'll briefly go over the plant cycle with the keiki then we'll start planting. After we've finished getting dirty we'll take a nice relaxing walk up the valley. If you want to join us,RSVP below. Weʻd love to have you!

4.) Waimea Valley

I LOVE field trips and I try to plan one for my girls every month. This month we're going to check out Waimea Valley. It is home to a beautiful botanical garden and features a waterfall. They also offer tours and education on Native Hawaiian history.

5.) Fundraisers

There are so many educational benefits from keiki fundraisers so we'll cover that in a later post. For now, let me tell you about my girls' "Nack Shop." We're setting up a snack stand in our front yard and selling a few homemade local favorites; starting with Furikake Chex Mix and Ling Hing Mui Ice Cakes. The other fundraiser we'll be doing is yard work. We currently have 1 client with a huge yard, so we might be maxed out on taking on other clients for now. LOL. These fundraisers are just for our girls, not Toddlerschool, and the funds raised will go towards our Disney trip later this year.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with our lessons, field trips, and projects. Donʻt forget to check out our latest worksheet packet- Spring Time: Plants & Pollination. However you do Toddlerschool, make sure you're having fun with it!
