Field Trip: Fire Station

We recently went on a field trip to our local fire station with our friends from North Shore Playgroup. We had the best time! The fire fighters were great with the kids, saying "the kids are our biggest fans, so we had to give 'em a good time." And they did exactly that.

A few days prior to our field trip we did a quick lesson plan on fire trucks. Our friends from North Shore Playgroup joined us at the park where we danced, talked, and played together. We loved it, so we plan on doing more Toddlerschool Pop-ups like this in the future. Feel free to checkout this reel from North Shore Playgroup to see the all the fun we had.

When the big day came, the keiki were thrilled to meet the fire fighters and check out the fire trucks. The staff was extremely patient with our littles and talked at a level they could understand.

After one the fire fighters got dressed with his safety gear they made a really good point that I think most of us don't think about. They asked if the fire fighter looked scary then followed up with, "Under all that gear, it's still our friend Tyler. He's there to help you." Sometimes our keiki might think a fire fighter looks and sounds scary in all that gear especially with the oxygen mask on. They made sure to remind the keiki not to run and hide if they see a fire fighter; it's important to listen so they can keep us safe.

After the demonstration they allowed our littles to explore and it was extremely fun and chaotic. We got to look at all the tools in the fire truck, sit in the driver's seat, tour the inside of the station, and shoot the water hose. Through all the craziness, the staff remained friendly and patient with all the keiki. It was an amazing day and I know everyone from our playgroup enjoyed this field trip.

A big Mahalo to everyone at Hau'ula Fire Station who made this field trip one to remember. Also, mahalo to HFD for all your hard work and dedication to helping and keeping our communities safe. And finally, mahalo to North Shore Playgroup for coordinating this field trip with us.

If haven't already, checkout our instagram where we share lots of our day to day activities and recaps of our lesson plans. Here's our reel from the visit to the station
