Flashcards

Here are just some of the ways we use flashcards in our toddler school:

1.) Identification

When I had the paper to my toddlers I go over it with them by identifying the objects on the flashcards. If it's a coloring flashcard set, I'll ask questions about the colors they use as they go along.

2.) (Match) Memory Game

After I cut out the flashcards we play a matching game with the cards faced up. Then we'll make it harder by facing them down.

3.) Letter Recognition

We've also tried writing the letter associated with the picture (first letter of the word) on the back. Start with both capitals or both lower case. When your child can easily recognize those you can change it up and write a capital on one and a lower case on the other.

4.) Movement Cards

Assign and go over a movement for each card. Put the cards in the middle and take turns picking one. When someone picks a card, they need to identify the object on the card and do the motion assigned to it. For example, we rotated our arms in a circle when we identified a cement mixer.

Do you have other ideas to incorporate flashcards in your Toddlerschool? We'd love to hear them. Thanks for being here and can't wait to see how you've implemented these activities in your home. Remember, however you go through the lesson plan, make sure you have fun with it.
