Reach for the Cars

Reach for the cars with our new Transportation Lesson Plan. We're working on a Transportation series, so stay tuned. This first lesson plan in our Transportation series focuses on City Vehicles.

Our City Vehicles Lesson Plan will fuel your week with daily activities. Each day includes 3-5 activities for your toddler to explore different types of vehicles seen on the road, traffic/road signs, and other modes of transportation. We've created flashcards and 6 worksheets to go along with the lesson; they are in the order found on lesson plan.

We took the girls to an indoor playground and this particular one had a bunch of toy cars to ride and a road mapped out on the floor. It's so amazing to me how the girls gravitate to what we're learning in Toddlerschool. Have you experienced this with your toddlers?

One of the first activities we did together was make box cars. After identifying different city vehicles I asked the girls which one was their favorite, then we made them out of boxes. This is Elsie's ambulance. I outlined different shapes on the box for her to identify and practice coloring in the lines. (Thank you Ciara for the tip).

One of the most fun and engaging activities we've done was this road map. We created a little city in our garage for the girls to pretend driving around with their box cars. Even the neighbors came over to enjoy this activity with us. The kids played with this for a good 4 hours.

The craziest thing happened- we just finished Toddlerschool for the day when we heard sirens. We were taking guesses on which rescue vehicle it could be when a firetruck turned down our lane. Luckily the fire was small. We got to see the firetruck from across the street and watch the firemen in action. The girls were thrilled!

Don't forget to zoom over to our Pinterest page where you'll find more ideas to incorporate in your Toddlerschool, including snack time. Please share with us how your Toddlerschool journey is going by commenting below or sending us an email. We appreciate you being here and can't wait to see how you've implemented these activities in your home. However you go through the lesson plan, make sure you have fun with it!
