Thankful

I want to start by saying, our journey has been so fulfilling and it's in part to you! Thank you for following us as we navigate through our teaching and learning styles. We've come a long way, yet we still have much to learn. We hope you not only enjoy following our Toddlerschool journey but have sparked a joy for learning in your own home.

To continue our theme of Thankfulness we've prepared 3 lesson plans for you to do with your keiki. Scroll through the photos below and learn a little more about the activities to look forward to.

Leaf Cutting- We printed out leaves and practiced cutting. You can also use real leaves instead. My oldest was 2 when we first tried this activity. She struggled with just holding the scissors but I encouraged her to do her best. Fast forward to today, she can hold the scissors correctly and has developed the motor skills to cut. Our next step is to cut on the lines.

Leaf Printing- Grab some leaves on your nature walk to use for various activities throughout the week like this one. This is such a simple activity that can occupy your child for a while. Just stamp the leaves into the play dough. You can add other fall items like sticks, corn, or pumpkins into the mix. Playing with playdough provides a sensory experience that aid development of fine motor skills while also encouraging the use of their imagination.

Leaf Sorting- We cut out leaves in different shapes, sizes, and colors for my toddler to sort. You can use real leaves for this activity too. Sorting helps develop visual perception skills and build the foundation for problem-solving skills.

Thankful Tree- We used the leaves from our Fall Leaves lesson plan to make our Thankful Tree. Most toddlers can't write words yet so you can either write their answers for them or use photos instead. We added a new leaf everyday so by the time Thanksgiving came around our tree was beautiful and full. We displayed it on our dinner table for everyone to see.

Thanksgiving Shirts- This was the absolute cutest activity of the week. This was our very first shirt project and because we loved it so much, we continue to do it for various holidays. I helped my toddlers paint a turkey with their prints then ironed on the letters. Art encourages creativity and imagination development.

Feed the Turkey- This activity helps your toddler work on their fine motor skill. You can add other elements to make it more challenging for your older keiki. For example, adding tongs or spoons to feed the turkey can be a little more challenging. You could also use different colored cups and treats to have your toddler match the color of the treats to the same colored cups.

My Name is- These are our everyday morning checklist and name worksheets. These worksheets pair perfectly with our lesson plan My Family and I because each item on the list involves different family roles or aspects. For example, the girls are responsible for eating breakfast but it's mommies responsibility to make the food (family roles). The girls can identify their own clothes and get themselves dressed which is a reflection of their personality and what they like. By this I mean, Elsie likes all things fabulous and when she gets dressed she'll wear all her best clothing items even if they don't match. Jiana likes simplicity and princesses, so when she gets dressed she looks for a princess dress and keeps the accessories to minimum.

Family Tree- This is our family wall in our living room. One of our biggest blessing is that we are surrounded by family and in turn are surrounded by love. I 100% recommend having a family wall in your home. It can be difficult for our keiki to understand how we're related to other family members (especially in Hawaii), so having a visual helps them make the connections.
